Venkatesh (Venky) Shankar is Professor & Coleman Chair in Marketing and Director of Research, Center for Retailing Studies, Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. His research areas include digital business, marketing strategy, innovation and retailing.
He has been recognized among the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds by Thomson Reuters and as Top 10 innovation scholar. He is a winner of AMA Lifetime Retailing Achievement Award, AMA Mahajan Award for Lifetime Contributions to Marketing Strategy, Distinguished Alumnus Award from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, Distinguished Alumnus Award from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Clarke Award for Outstanding Direct and Interactive Marketing Educator, Long-term Impact Article Award from IJRM, and Green Award for Best JMR Article. He is Co-Editor of Handbook of Marketing Strategy and author of Shopper Marketing. He has published in JMR, Management Science, Marketing Science, SMJ, JM, and Harvard Business Review.
The Shankar-Spiegel Award from Marketing EDGE is named in his honor. He is ex-President of the Marketing Strategy SIG, AMA and serves on the CMO council and B2B Leadership Board. He was also a two-term Academic Trustee of the Marketing Science Institute. He is Editor-Emeritus of the Journal of Interactive Marketing, Associate Editor of JMR, Area Editor of JM, and ex-Associate Editor of Management Science.
He is a three-time winner of the Krowe Award for outstanding teaching. He has been a visiting faculty at MIT, INSEAD, Singapore Management University, SDA Bocconi, Chinese European International Business School, and Indian School of Business. He was selected as the 2014 Guru to deliver the Guruspeak lecture across India. Venky has consulting or executive education experience with organizations such as Deloitte, GlaxoSmithKline, HSBC, IBM, Intel, Lockheed Martin, Marriott, Medtronic, PepsiCo, Philips, and Volvo. He has appeared on CNN, C-SPAN and Voice of America. Venky has a Ph.D. from Kellogg School, Northwestern University.
